AN OPEN DIALOGUE FOR STAKEHOLDERS INPUTS ON THE PLEA-BARGAINING GUIDELINES AND THE ECONOMIC OFFENCES (SPECIFICATION FOR CONSENT NOTICE) GN 469H

The Tanzania International Arbitration Centre (TIAC) and The Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) through the support of Freedom House Tanzania is organizing on Open Dialogue titled “Stakeholders Inputs on the Plea-Bargaining Guidelines and the Economic Offences (Specification For Consent Notice) GN 469H”, scheduled to be held on 11th June 2022 at the Wakili House, Dar es Salaam, from 09.00am to 02.00pm.

 

TLS and TIAC through the support of Freedom House Tanzania previously organized an open dialogue on Law and Practice of plea-bargaining in Tanzania, which was held on 24th March 2022 at the Wakili House in Dar es Salaam.  This activity brought together stakeholders and experts with different backgrounds for getting their experiences and insights on the Law and Practice of Plea Bargaining in Tanzania considering that plea bargaining is considered to be an ADR mechanism in the criminal justice system.

Now, TLS and TIAC through the support of Freedom House has organized another open dialogue for the purpose of following up on the implementation of the action points agreed upon by the participants in the previous dialogue. 

One among of the action points agreed upon by the participants in the previous dialogue was the DPP’s office sharing the plea bargaining guidelines and the Economic Offences (Specification for Consent Notice of 2021 which is GN 469H of 2021 that they were working on with stakeholders for them to give their comments and recommendations. In this dialogue the  DPP’s office will be sharing with stakeholders the plea-bargaining guidelines and the Economic Offences (Specification for Consent Notice) of 2021;GN 469H of 2021 to stakeholders for their comments and recommendations.

The panel will be led by Hon Judge (Rtd) Robert Vincent Makaramba, Mr. Renatus Mkude & Mr. Ladislaus Komanya from the DPP’s Office ,  supported by experts from the Judiciary, DPP’s office, prisons, as well as human rights practitioners.

Participation in this dialogue will be physical and online whereby  TLS and TIAC will only accommodate 30 physical participants. For those interested to physically participate are urged to register their names via mmagoma@tiac.or.tz  before 10th June 04 : 00 pm. (FIRST COME FIRST REGISTERED).
