It is with great pleasure we inform you that the Tanzania International Arbitration Centre (TIAC) will be officially launched on 16th October 2021. The Launch Ceremony will be conducted at the Wakili House, Chato Street, Dar es Salaam from 09:00 am to 01:30 pm.

The Guest of Honour will be Prof. Sifuni Ernest Mchome, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs (MoCLA). The event will also be graced by the Governor of the Central Bank of Tanzania, Prof. Florens Luoga. The event will bring together dignitaries from government institutions, judiciary, business community, private sector, development partners as well as law firms.

Considering the prevailing condition of the Covid 19 pandemic, we are forced to limit Invitations for physical attendance to a limited number of invitees. The first ADR Professional Dialogue by the Tanzania International Arbitration Centre

The Tanzania International Arbitration Centre, TIAC conducted the very first Young ADR Professional dialogue which was held on 2nd of October 2021 at Wakili House Dar es salaam and hosted by Adv. Edith Michael Mtweve

The key speakers for the Dialogue were the TIAC Managing Director Mr. Alphonce Gura together with Adv. Asha Sabrina Ayoub, who provided a number of detailed insights on the perks of practicing ADR especially for the Young Professionals, the speakers spoke on how to crack in and grasp the opportunities through which the ADR practice can offer at the moment and the near future

The attendees were able to learn and develop new thoughts about what the ADR practice can offer here in Tanzania as well as continental wise for the legal professionals and to other professionals like accountants, engineers, auditors and any other professionals from any registered board in the country, as for the dialogue, a number of attendees from various professions participated fully in the dialogue

The Tanzania International Arbitration Centre is looking forward to having a number of interesting dialogue which will tremendously impact the career path of the Young Professionals in Tanzania as well as focusing on how to create, utilize and share the opportunities among the members

The Current Managing Director, Tanzania International Arbitration Centre ( TIAC )

TIAC Managing Director, Mr. Alphonce Marandu Gura, has worked with the Tanganyika Law Society for 10 years prior to his appointment at TIAC. Key to his role at TLS, he served as the Acting Chief Executive Officer for more or less the entire 2014. Mr Gura has been an influential figure in the TLS Senior Management for the past 8 years, immensely contributing to the design and implementation of two generations of strategic plans, designing of programes that defined a new TLS image to its stakeholders and individually taking the key role in TLS fundraising and business development initiatives.

He has written, edited and contributed to hundreds of TLS publications. Mr. Gura has also been a key drafter of a major regulations for the regulation of the Law Society business notably the TLS Election Regulations and TLS Chapter Regulations among a handful of other regulations. Mr Gura posses a unique blend of knowledge in businesses development, policy and law reform programming, judicial accountability advocacy as well as regulations of legal professionals and Professional Associations.

Mr. Gura is a registered member of the Bar in Tanzania, as well as East Africa Law Society (EALS) and the Southern Africa Development Community Law Association (SADCLA). He has in the past taken an a leading role for the negotiation of the position of the TLS in Cross Border Legal Practice in East Africa from 2012 to 2015. Mr. Gura is particularly active in the SADCLA where he is currently serving in its various committees including the Pro bono Committee, Human Rights Committee, A special committee to popularize AFSA/SADC seat of Arbitration, and the SADCLA Young Lawyers Network.

Asha Sabrina Ayub (known as Sabrina) is a lawyer qualified in Mainland Tanzania (Advocate), Zanzibar (Advocate) and England & Wales (Solicitor) and arbitrator ( NCC / TiArb ), specializing in mining, petroleum, power and other regulated industries, local content, construction and projects, banking and finance, insolvency and restructuring, corporate/M&A

(including private equity, competition and joint ventures), employment and other areas of business and commercial law.
Sabrina was a Partner at Bowmans Tanzania, a full-service law firm in Dar es Salaam that won the prestigious IFLR1000 award of ‘Tanzania Law Firm of the Year’ for 2020. Prior to that, Sabrina trained and practiced as a Solicitor at Taylor Wessing in London City then worked as a lawyer at Clyde & Co’s offices in London, later on Tanzania and Anjarwalla & Khanna / ATZ Law Chambers ALN offices in Tanzania and Kenya.

Adv. Sabrina was a former Group Head of Legal for a pan-African construction group owned by a private equity house.
Legal directories (Chambers, IFLR1000 and Legal500) rank Sabrina a top-7 (within top 20) Tanzanian lawyer for business law in 2021. Sabrina was the only lawyer ranked as a ‘Next Generation Partner’ for 2020 by Legal500 in Tanzania.

In 2021, Sabrina was named one for Tanzanian ‘Women Leaders 2021’ by IFLR1000’s worldwide guide to leading female lawyers.
Sabrina is a recognized expert in Tanzanian business laws and her contributions include consulting for the Tanzanian President’s Delivery Bureau (PDB) and the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation TPSF on streamlining Tanzanian business laws as part of the Tanzania Development Vision 2025 ‘Big Results Now!’ (BRN) initiative. Given her expertise, Sabrina frequently moderates for investment facilitation at Government dialogues (including moderating the UK / Tanzanian Ministerial Dialogue and also the USA / Tanzanian Ministerial Dialogue in 2019) or speaks at keystone industry or regional conferences such as the Tanzanian Government’s SADC Industrialization Week conference when Tanzania took the SADC helm in 2019.

In 2020, Sabrina was invited by the Ministry of Minerals of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania to be the only private practice Tanzanian lawyer to speak at its February 2020 Tanzanian Mining Conference, and Sabrina spoke and moderated sessions at the 2019 Tanzania Oil Gas Congress organized by the Ministry of Energy and ATOGs.

Sabrina is regularly an expert presenter to lawyers and businesses across Africa, including for African national and international bar associations and trade groups in Tanzania.


Adv. Sabrina has a Bachelor of Laws degree (Hons.) from the University of Southampton, where she won an academic award and was President of the University Law Society, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law, London. Sabrina has also completed various specialist legal courses including oil and gas law at the renowned Center for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) in Scotland, on project finance and PPPs with the International Project Finance Association (IPFA) and sections 1 to 3 of the Certified Public Secretary qualification in East Africa.
