Kindly be informed that there will be a Young Alternative Dispute Resolution ( ADR ) Professional Dialogue scheduled on Saturday, 2nd of October 2021 which will be conducted by the Tanzania International Arbitration Centre (TIAC). This YAP Dialogue holds a theme “Arbitration practice opportunities for young professionals in Tanzania”

Objective: The dialogue aims at enlightening young professionals from various fields on the vast opportunities that can be harnessed from arbitration practice in Tanzania as a growing economy. The dialogue focuses on guiding young professionals on the viable ways to develop arbitration practice niches that have the potential of expanding the practice in their respective professions.

The Perks of Attending the Dialogue: Attendees will get the opportunity to become members of Young TIAC Network. This is a network of young practitioners in all professions who aspire to become national and international ADR practitioners mentored to become the best in the field by the most experienced practitioners in ADR.

CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST AS MEMBER OF THE ADVISORY BOARD OF THE TANZANIA INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION CENTRE TIAC

The Tanzania international Arbitration Centre (TIAC) was established by the Tanganyika Law
Society (TLS) in 2019 to provide administrative services in dispute resolution (ADR) services,
which include international and domestic commercial arbitration, adjudication, mediation and
conciliation and is operationally independent from the Government by maintaining a high quality
panel of arbitrators and mediators, who are known for their integrity, impartiality and expertise
for effective resolution of disputes outside court.
TIAC operates with the support of an Advisory Board, a Board of Directors, and a Secretariat,
and draws on the established legal framework for international arbitration in Tanzania.
The TIAC shall establish an Advisory Committee consisting of independent nominees, from time
to time. The i Board of Director’s of the Centre shall appoint from among the members of the
law society, business community as well as eminent international personalities specialized in the
fields of international arbitration, ADR mechanisms and international investment law and trade
to the following positions: Chairperson; Vice Chairperson} 8 Members and 2 ex-officio
members.
Scope of responsibilities
The Advisory Board provides advice to the TIAC Secretariat and TIAC Board of Directors,
supporting the institution’s adherence to accepted international standards including policy
advice.
Term
The terms of the Advisory Committee shall be four (4) years, which may be renewed once for a
similar term, unless otherwise determined due to special circumstances.
Required Skills and Experience
The applicants shall meet the following criteria in order to qualify:
A degree in law or other relevant social sciences. A master’s degree in alternative dispute
resolution (ADR) would be an asset;
Formal accreditations or training in arbitration, mediation or any other ADR mechanism;
Proven international arbitration or domestic commercial arbitration experience
Proven adjudication or mediation experience (at least seven years); and
Proficiency in English (both oral and written).
